Formula: size = (capital × risk%) ÷ (|entry − stop| × multiplier). The direction is inferred from where the stop is.
How position size is calculated
Size = (capital × risk %) ÷ (distance to stop × point value). With €10,000 of capital, 1% risk and a stop $500 from entry on BTC, the size is 100 ÷ 500 = 0.2 BTC.
In forex a standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency; in futures every contract has a point value ($50 for the E-mini S&P 500, $20 for the Nasdaq).
In the journal the size is calculated automatically from your account capital, with your rules and open risk limits. Create a free account
